GOAL SETTING AND ACTIONS TO BRING YOU THE BODY AND THE LIFE YOU WANT.
In my coaching practice I always spend the first few sessions reviewing the motivations and reasons why people want to change their eating and exercise habits . We make a list based on the questions below and get to the real reasons that drove them to take action. This list is then read everyday to remind and reinforce the intention and to keep the fire of self will and motivation alive when the initial glow of enthusiasm wears off.
I have borrowed this concept from an inspirational coach Lorna Frances who I met at the IDEA mind body conference in Palm Springs back in sept of 2007. I have adopted these coaching techniques to fat loss and fitness.
Take a half hour with a nice cup of coffee and quietly sit and review these questions. They will reveal a new way of looking at your cherished dreams for gettiing the low fat lean body you want.
KEYS TO CREATING THE BODY OF YOUR DREAMS
1) What kind of body do you want to create for yourself?
2) What makes you passionate about it? What gets you excited about it? What made you excited as a kid?
3) Make the picture of yourself in your ideal body even more detailed and vivid- don’t limit yourself!
4) Don’t get attached to a specific outcome ( your dream may be bigger than you can imagine right now)
5) Think of it as beginning to happen right now. Example : I have washboard abs and 10% body fat, I run 5 miles daily, I compete in long distance cycling events, I am a master tennis player…..
ATTENTION- Place your attention on your dreams as often as possible. Each morning after you awake write intentions for the day that reflect forward movement and specific action in the direction of your dreams.Write them on an index card and look at them through the day each time you eat.
ASK- Is what I am about to do helping move toward my goal or away from my goal?
AWARENES AND MINDFULNESS- Just keep your dreams “top of mind” throughout the day. Adknowledge that motivation wears off but willpower is a faithful friend that will pull you through the low times
FOCUS on the feelings you want to have? Focus only on what you want. What you focus on exclusively grows .
OPENNESS- Be open and receptive to all possible ways of realizing your dream. Pay attention to opportunities. Where are there hidden opportunities you have missed that could help you reach your goal more effortlessly?
Can you get comfortable with UNCERTAINTY, Stay FLEXIBLE, EVOLVE and grow? - Recognize when plans need to change , don’t be attached to a plan that isn’t working . A2 = ADAPT AND ADJUST. ( this is one of my favorite sound bytes form Dr. Pamela Peeke, an expert on fitness over 50.
Can you LET GO OF ATTACHMENT TO A SPECIFIC OUTCOME?- this only creates worry anxiety and frustration. No expectations no disappointment, have acceptance and be more peaceful in all your now moments. How can you create the best now possible? Remember the future and past are concepts that reside in our minds , reality is about what’s going on right now and what action you do.
Do you have limiting beliefs about yourself or your environment that hold you back? Limited beliefs create limited dreams! What actions can you take to change that? Brainstorm and come with at least 10 ideas to help you make the change a reality.
Openness and passion will inspire you to take action and effortlessly move toward your dreams.
Inspired action feels natural and effortless often spontaneous
Now is the time - today is the day . Remember to enjoy the process and the outcome will take care of itself!
